Checkpoint
Director: Ruben Amar
FRANCE, 2011, 19'
Checkpoint evokes one of the most striking and thought-provoking messages in a very accurate cinematographic manner.
This very local story is conceived in an universal cinematic language evoked by the expressiveness of the actors captured in exquisite close ups, by the wisely-used music, by the subtle attention for details and by the editing innovative solutions.
It is undoubtedly an emotionally enriching story which touches our hearts and which challenges our values and opinions, our inner-selves.
CERVANTES ROME AWARD
Il cane
The Dog
Director: Andrea Zaccariello
ITALY, 2011, 13'
A man's plans for hanging himself are interrupted by huge (and hungry) rotweiler, who puts his decision to the test and forces him to ask himself "Do I really hate my life?"
This situation felt familiar to us all, as we all have our moments of despair and our Rotweiler we wish to run away from.
"The Dog" wins the Cervantes Award hooking the viewer from the very first scene, and skillfully taking him on an intense journey full of emotional ups and downs with nothing but a simple universal story, and one and a half actors.
